FAQ
What is the advantage to grinding my stump?
Stump grinding is the most efficient and effective form of stump removal. When you opt for stump grinding, you can rest assured that the entire tree stump will be removed, thus eliminating the hazards and safety risks of an exposed stump. Stump grinding also ensures that termites, ants, bees, snakes, and other pests do not have a ready habitat in which to nest. Additionally, opting for stump grinding rather than stump removal demands less of an impact on your landscaping.
what to expect
Stump grinders come in many shapes and sizes. Some grinders are attached to the back of a tow vehicle and must be driven on your yard to grind the stump. We operate a 2017 Rayco RG45x 4x4 self propelled machine, which means no trucks driving over your lawn. The stump grinder has a wheel with sharp teeth which cut through the wood of the stump. You are left with a mix of dirt and wood chips which can be raked into the hole where the stump once was or used for mulch around your yard. We also can remove the wood chips for an additional charge.
what happens with the wood chips?
Our standard pricing includes the removal of the stump, clean up of the work area, and leaving the wood chips on site. We do offer, for an additional charge, the hauling away of the wood chips. We can also fill the hole in with topsoil and plant grass seed. Ask us about our different options and pricing. Pricing is based on the size of the area and the amount of material to be hauled away and / or brought in.
How deep do we grind down?
We typically grind the stump down 4-8" inches below grade. This is plenty deep to accommodate for topsoil and grass to grow. Need us to go deeper? Just ask!
how long does it take and what’s the cost?
Stump grinding times vary by size of the stump, type of wood being ground, and soil type. The cost varies on the sizing and amount of stumps to be removed. We do offer multiple stump discounts as well as 10% off for our military, veterans, and all first responders.
can i rent a machine and do it myself?
You are able to rent stump grinders and tackle the project yourself. However, take it from someone who has been there, it is not worth it! Rental machines are often low horse power machines that have dull teeth. The process trying to do it yourself is not worth the headache. Most of the time, you can call us to do it for less than you’ll spend on a rental machine.
